The Black Friday Shopping Madness Essay - 957 Words

It was an awful experience about the Black Friday shopping madness since arriving in the United States, but I had never really got excited about it. I always considered Black Friday to be an ordinary day despite the hype surrounding it. On 2013 Black Friday, however, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to embark on a shopping spree just to have an experience of this white tradition. Nevertheless, I still had some reservations as I felt that it would look odd for an international student to engage in an American tradition that he didn’t know much about. In fact, as it turned out, my experience was awful but not without some important lessons. The parking lot in the mall was full to the brim, but I wasn’t much concerned because I didn’t have a car to park. I was dropped by a taxi and immediately headed to the mall’s entrance with my small bag tightly gripped on my right hand. I tried to appear as confident as Hercules, but apparently, my dark skin betrayed me all along. â€Å"Hey! Not too first young man,† a female guard screamed demanding that I pass through the security check at the entrance. â€Å"What is inside this pouch?† asked the lady. â€Å"Nothing really; just my credit card and some personal effects,† I murmured trying to conceal my Nigerian accent. However, the guard insisted on checking my pouch claiming that she didn’t quite understand what I said. I was a little hesitant but eventually gave in just to save myself from any drama at the mall.
